Dance in Nature : Bodyscape Dance

  • Duck and Bear Studio, 2 York Villas Springfield Road Stroud, England, GL5 United Kingdom (map)

A retrospective exhibition of Jemima’s work with other dancers over the last 9 years through film and Photographs taken by Harvey. These will be projected onto the wall of the studio showing the power of movement to lift and soothe people.

Jemima has danced all her life and has found it hugely beneficial for her mental wellbeing. Due to this experience she is keen to introduce anyone to the idea of moving in nature, to music and words, creating spontaneous group work.

From an idea that Alex Howard suggested in a group she ran with Jo Hoffman: Jemima decided to work with others from that group to create a performance in Hawkwood woods where the audience was led through the woods.

From 2020 she has run a weekly session on different sites around Stroud which has now become known as Bodyscape with the aid of Rebecca Stapleford and Juliana Avila. Others in the group are Kate Bell, Katie Lloyd Nunn, Simon Slidders, Anna Thornhill, Cynthia Whelan.

There will be spontaneous movement improvisations from members of Bodyscape and others along with art work from members of Bodyscape demonstrating how movement can inspire art and vice versa.

Photographs and videos of dance in nature and performances created over the last 9 years with other dancers/movers, with artwork reflecting movement and the space we work in from particpants of Bodyscape. Also spontaneous live improvised movement from different dancers. No set times.
