Aleph Contemporary is pleased to present Congruent Sym, a solo exhibition of new work by Nottingham-based artist Marek Tobolewski. This collection continues Tobolewski’s exploration of symmetrical structures, flowing lines, and visual voids—drawn entirely freehand with no masking, tape, or digital aids. His method is rigorous and intuitive, revealing balanced compositions that hold tension and stillness in equal measure.
The title Congruent Sym refers to the artist’s long-standing interest in mirrored and repeated structures—forms that align and diverge, revealing layered emotional and spatial resonances. Whether in burnished graphite or pigment paint, Tobolewski’s work is deeply rooted in process. Some pieces take months to complete, their surfaces built slowly through repeated gestures.
With nearly four decades of practice, Tobolewski has exhibited widely in the UK, Paris, New York, and Atlanta. His work is held in public and private collections internationally. He lives and works in Nottingham, where he is a long-time resident at PRIMARY, an artist-led space. This exhibition during the Site Festival 2025 is an opportunity to see Marek's recent explorations. Aleph Contemporary, based in Stroud, provides a fitting home for these considered, quietly powerful works throughout June.
Aleph Contemporary is opposite The Stroud Hotel and adjacent to the train station on Station Road
