| Artists have
a long history of interest in food's visual qualities, but other
subjects arise as they examine its progress from
sea, river, garden, allotment or farm
through to the plate. Organised jointly by
Sally Pearce of The Old Passage and 'Walking the Land',
this exhibition includes works by painters,
printmakers, poets, photographers and
sculptors who examine food's visual,
cultural and ecological impact. Take part in
voting for the winner of The Old Passage
Art Award, the publics' favourite artwork,
from the collection.

A collective cross-pollination celebrating
ecological and creative diversity. Westley
Farm has been a haven for artists,
performers and craftspeople since 1972,
encouraging the growth of endangered
species from butterflies to boat-builders.
This year's collaboration for site09 will
celebrate that legacy. A rich diversity of
thoughtful artisans - seeds gathered by
Roving Studio and nurtured in the creative
compost of the farm - will bloom for you
in a mid-summer weekend. Weaving
together threads from Geo-Archaeology;
Anthropology; Ecology, Arts and Crafts,
Land Art and Contemporary Multi-Media
we explore stories from the land in times
of Transition.
Park in the layby to walk down the
Timeline Track; disabled parking only at
the farm. Terrace and Treehouse Teas
available, in the company of Julian
Usborne, host and walking archive. |
The worldwide
decline in bees is effecting all species of bee not just honeybees.
In the UK alone there are more than 250
species. Bees are essential for the
pollination of the plants that feed us. With
support from the Princes Trust and
UnLTD Millenium Awards, Carlo
Montesanti and Jessie Jowers have recently
set up The Global Bee Project as a 'Not
for Profit' organisation to tackle this
global problem on a very local level.
An empty shop in Stroud will be
transformed into a magical and informative
world of bees and plants. Jessie and Carlo
will use the space to design and build bee
houses, created for a non aggressive
variety of bee, Osmia Rufa. These bees
can be looked after by anyone without the
complications of disease, expensive
equipment or the fear of being stung.
These bees are incredible pollinators, a
single bee pollinates the equivalent to 120
honeybees.
