Stroud
College has a highly
successful Art Academy that has been recognised in the last three
successive inspections as being 'grade 1' outstanding. It has a diverse
range of courses from single days to two years; from fine art, to
design, music technology, multimedia and more. The element that unites
this whole variety is the quality of the teaching. The staff in the
Arts Academy are passionate about their own varied subjects, and
totally committed to the idea of Arts education.
The students have access to the wide range of facilities and workshops at the
college, including; photography darkroom, 3D workshop, Mac and PC computer suites,
print workshop, crafts workshop, music and video production suites, extensive
Arts library and purpose built studios. |
On View is an artist led
initiative that recognises the creative opportunities of vacant shop
premises. Its aim is twofold,
to aid regeneration and provide a high street location for artists to create
and show work.
The work on view for the whole of June is from the Foundation Degree in Creative
Practice Year 1, at Stroud College. The course gives students two years of exploring
a range of art and craft disciplines with the opportunity to go on to a final
third year at the University of the West of England to make it up to a full honours
degree. These students are on their way to developing a sustainable personal
practice rooted in intellectual and practical creativity. |
The Rapunzels are a group of 10 artists
based in Woodchester. They live and work together in an old tumbledown
mansion with a tower. They share meals and materials as well as thoughts
and inspiration.
They have all gravitated to this place, some arriving and others returning. They
want to live communally and work alongside other creative people.
This is the first time they will be letting down their long hair and inviting
you to see what they've been up to.
The exhibition 'Live and Dead Art', includes interactive installation, performance,
jewellery, illustration, fashion textiles, photography, fine art and writing.
