& Kousic Sen
Saturday 31st May 7pm
Stroud Valleys Artspace,
4 John Street, Stroud GL5 2HA
Pandit Barun Kumar Pal plays an instrument of his own creation called
the Hansaveena: a cross between a sitar and slide guitar. Born into
a musical family in Bengal, he was initiated into music by his father
Bankimkumar Pal, a senior sitar player of the Enayat Khan gharana.
His sensitivity and stylised rendering of the nuances of Indian classical
ragas has brought accolades from all over the Globe. Kousic Sen, a
child prodigy, was initiated in Tabla playing by Professor Biswanath
Bose of the Benares Gharana and later became a disciple of the Tabla
wizard Pandit Kumar Bose. Kousic is an accom- plished soloist and accompanist,
and has performed with many luminaries of Indian dance and music and
world music. Kousic has performed in all the major festivals in India,
UK, Europe, Canada and USA.
