This year SVA’s refurbished studios in John Street will be a focal
point for a whole programme of arts activities and will also act as
a festival information resource. Designs for the refurbishment were created
by Tony Fretton Architects, whose back catalogue includes the Camden
Art Centre, London, the Lisson Gallery,London, a house for Anish Kapoor
and the British Embassy in Warsaw.
SVA asked new studio members
to re-interpret the idea of Open Studios by
considering the building as whole rather
than just individual studio spaces and to
invite other artists to participate.
SVA studio members have been working alongside curator and writer Lisa
LeFeuvre with the intention of realising the potential of the building
as a space for the production and presentation of work.
The month long programme includes
work by studio members and invited
ar tists, installations, interventions,
trial pit cinema screenings,
elixir events, performance poetry, forums, discussions and presentations.
